The Historical District of Fredericksburg Texas was designated in June of 1985. A city ordinance was enacted that would allow the National Historical Commission to designate areas of the city as "historic districts" and to designate individual sites as "historical landmarks".
The District is roughly bounded by Elk, Schubert, Acorn and Creek Streets. (3,040 acres, 367 buildings, 1 object).
The ordinance applies only to the exterior of a building. Interior design and renovation are not affected. Significant changes to the exterior require review by the Board of Review which is appointed by the commission.
