May 21, 2009 (Excerpt from wife Jan..) Fredericksburg Texas has the all the attributes of a sleepy little town so appealing to visitors and newcomers alike. And while this visage truly does represent the peaceful nature of living here, it belies the existence of a progressive attitude unusual in a rural setting. This progressive trait has grown over the years during which my family and I have lived in Gillespie County and I believe it is partly responsible for the strength and vigor that under girds our little town.

Be There or be Square; the Fredericksburg Texas Marktplatz
May 05, 2009
Every community has its gathering places. In Fredericksburg Texas the Market Square is such a place. This ‘Marktplatz’ is an important nexus that supports a strong social cohesiveness which makes Fredericksburg such a unique community. Revitalized into a modern day central park in the early 90’s, the Marktplatz hosts community events and festivals such as October fest, Texas Mesquite Art Festival, Christmas Markets and many more. As a part of this restoration, large pavilions were erected, gardens planted and a playground installed. My wife was involved in the playground committee and you can still see the hand prints of both my boys (ages 3 & 6 at the time) placed in the cement foundation of a pavilion. It reminds us of our strong connection to this community when we go to the park and see those prints. Looking at my college age kids now, it is hard to believe they were ever that small.
