Fredericksburg Texas – Leadership in Action
May 21, 2009In 1995 our Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce began a program that today exemplifies this progressive nature. This program, called ‘Leadership Gillespie County’, demonstrates a determined approach to grow our community in an enlightened way through education. I was among the original group of 12 in the first class of the program, which included the Mayor, our Civic Judge, the President of the Chamber and quite a few other active community members. It was a very interesting experience and I would highly recommend participating if you ever have the opportunity.
As stated in the Leadership Program Application, the purpose of Leadership Gillespie County is to:
· Expand the network of potential future leaders of Fredericksburg and Gillespie County.
· Enhance the participants’ knowledge of the structure and operation of local businesses, schools, the hospital and government, civic and charitable organizations.
· Introduce the participants to local business owners, educators and school administrators, hospital management and staff, government officials and the leaders of civic and charitable organizations.
· Foster a better understanding of local issues and needs
· Develop leadership and team building skills.
There are various criteria in order to be selected to attend the program. It involves a two-year commitment to attend nine education sessions, a mixer, retreat, class social and the graduation. The first year is spent learning and the second helping to coordinate the following year for the new class. In order to be chosen for the upcoming year, the selection committee considers the applicants’ commitment to current and future community involvement. The program seeks to create community leaders who can address the issues and opportunities in Fredericksburg, leaders who can contribute new energy and ideas so that our community can grow in a vivacious and sensible manner.
During the time I attended, I had the opportunity to meet people and go places in such a manner as to develop relationships and a knowledge not ordinarily encountered by the average person. It was a great overview of the inner workings of Fredericksburg and beneficial both as a citizen and as a businessperson. Now as a REALTOR®, I find that the personal connections and extensive community knowledge garnered in Leadership Gillespie County lends itself to being a highly effective arbiter of Fredericksburg Texas real estate. Understanding the dynamics of our unique real estate market requires more than just a look at the sales data. It requires timely knowledge of the Fredericksburg Texas homes for sale and familiarity with ranchers considering the sale of their Fredericksburg Texas land. It requires ‘being in the know’.
My hope is that in your consideration of a Fredericksburg Texas real estate agent, you consider a REALTOR® who understands and is committed to the community. As an experienced REALTOR® with an inside perspective on our dynamic town, my hope is that you too, want to be ‘in the know’.
