Spring Rains Freshen Fredericksburg Texas
Mar 19, 2009As a REALTOR and as a resident, I feel a strong connection to the land. When it rains after a dry spell, I feel a great sense of relief for the thirsty countryside. The flora and fauna of this area are, however, adapted to deal with these periodic droughts. In the case of the Live Oaks, they have a broad root spread so as to make quick work of any brief rain. In addition, their thick bark and small leaves hold in moisture. On the other hand, the white tail deer have adapted such that their population can rise and fall significantly without total demise. In times of plenty, I once counted 60 deer on the 8 mile country road from the highway to my home (yes, 60).
Especially appreciative are the farmers and ranchers. Many of the peach growers use irrigation to some extend but spring rains provide the deep soaks that help grow roots and draw the minerals away from the tree. Ranchers, of course, appreciate the help from nature to feed their livestock. Naturally, as drought conditions persist the demand rises and at the same time the supply of bailed hay diminishes. Rain is a gift to the Texas Hill country. Nothing is more beautiful than a healthy native pasture with majestic longhorn cattle grazing peacefully!
An investment in a Fredericksburg Texas home is an investment in the Texas Hill Country lifestyle and our spring rains and occasional dry spells give this area a uniqueness well worth a look.
