According to the magazine The Progressive Farmer, Gillespie County is the 4th best rural county in the entire United States in which to live.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Progressive Farmer was founded in 1886 as a farming and livestock publication and was one of the most renowned and significant publications of the twentieth century. In 1966, the now familiar Southern Living Magazine was launched by Progressive Farmer editors as an offshoot publication covering lifestyle and home life.
However, in 2002 Progressive Farmer recognized the need to change from a strictly agrarian magazine to one with a new focus. As the trend continued in the population growth of small rural communities, Progressive Farmer turned their attention to the needs and interests of the new rural land owners or “suburban ruralists”.
This new type of rural land owner is driving up demand for rural land in the Hill Country Area. Even despite the slowdown of the current housing market, the population is growing in small towns and surrounding counties from people interested in ‘living in the country’. The same holds true for Fredericksburg and Gillespie County.
There are many compelling reasons for Gillespie County to be included in the ‘top 10 list’ of Progressive Farmer’s ‘Best Places to Live in Rural America’. This resident, however, believes that Gillespie County is the #1 best place to live!
